SENIOR HUMAN RESOURCES GENERALIST
The City of Houston is seeking a Senior Human Resources Generalist to provide professional HR support within the Human Resources Department. The role involves classified recruiting, staffing, promotions, and database management, along with mentoring and assisting with physical ability tests for firefighter trainee cadet applicants.

Responsibilities
Processes HFD HR activities in accordance with the City of Houston Civil Service Code of Ordinance, Chapter 14, Local Government Code Chapter 143, bargaining agreements, policies, procedures, guidelines, etc
Performs professional HR support in the areas of HFD classified staffing, classified promotions, civilian staffing, and database management reporting
Mentor, process, hire, lead and assist with administering physical ability test to firefighter trainee cadet applicants
Participates in diversity recruiting efforts, to include job fairs, target recruits, seminars, and marketing activities to help build working relationships
Post civilian staffing positions via NeoGov, source and place candidates into vacant positions, complete hiring paperwork and electronic steps in the process
Assists with the development and revision of policies, procedures, SOPs, etc
Prepares and analyzes various scheduled and impromptu reports, maintain and update data to respond to leadership upon immediate request
Research, collects, and analyzes data
Leads and/or assists with special assignments, scheduling, prescreening, projects, and other activities as assigned
Qualification
Required
Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Social Science, Liberal Arts, or a closely related field
Three years of related professional experience in human resources are required
Pertinent experience at the professional level may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis
Will be required to drive a city vehicle to various locations, therefore must possess a valid Texas Driver License
Will be required to administer/proctor physical ability tests at the training academy
Should be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs
Work in inclement weather
Preferred
Advanced MS Office Excel and Word skills
Meticulous attention to accuracy, ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Must demonstrate leadership potential, high level of organizational, time management and prioritizing skills
Possess excellent problem solving, communication and people skills
Advanced skills in analyzing data
