Research Scientist, WW Sustainability
Amazon is focused on advancing sustainability initiatives to support its long-term worldwide strategy. The lead Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) researcher will be responsible for leading assessments of environmental issues across Amazon's businesses and evaluating sustainability impacts across the value chain.

Responsibilities
Create and maintain ambiguous and/or complex LCA methodologies and models, including experimentation of footprint methods
Develop documentation for validations and assurance purposes
Ideate the creation and interpretation of innovative and novel methods and standards
Scales validations of methodologies or complex models for use in Amazon’s Corporate Carbon Footprint
Conducts research on new machine-learning and AI models and develop comprehensive data foundation, accurate and scalable methods to solve our hardest sustainability problems
Qualification
Required
PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of quantitative field research experience
Knowledge of R, MATLAB, Python or similar scripting language
Experience investigating the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to business problems and products
Strong industry experience modeling complex systems
Developing LCAs and emission factors (EFs)
Collecting and analyzing data
Reporting results to leaders through visualizations and metrics
Experienced working with imperfect data
Quantifying and identifying sources of uncertainty
Strong math skills
Ability to apply systems thinking to complex, fast moving problems
Strong working-knowledge of scientific methods and international standards (GHG Protocol, ISO)
Extensive experience using Ecoinvent, GaBi, and USEEIO databases
Preferred
Experience with agile development
Experience consulting with senior leadership and executives in a fast-paced environment
Experience programming, prototyping and scripting with Oracle, SQL, Hive, Pig, SAS, R, Weka, or Python
