Responsibilities
Provide expert advice on paint, stains, finishes, and sundries, including brushes, rollers, and tools
Accurately mix paint using the store’s color matching technology and tinting machines
Stay informed about current color trends and new product lines
Assist customers in calculating paint quantities and selecting appropriate surface prep and finishing products
Ensure tinting machines and shakers are cleaned and maintained according to safety and operational guidelines
Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked paint department, including regular facing and rotating of product
Replenish stock levels and place special orders using AceNet and other approved ordering systems
Assist with promotional setups and displays in the paint department
Welcome each customer promptly and courteously as they enter the paint department
Always greet customers with a smile and ask, 'What can I help you find today?'
Walk customers to products and ensure they have what they need for their project
Handle returns and exchanges of paint and related merchandise efficiently and courteously
Master the POS system to assist customers and trace transaction history when necessary
Participate in regular store training programs, safety sessions, and departmental meetings
Use proper Vision Ace Hardware phone etiquette, including store greeting, personal introduction, and accurate call transfers
Stay informed of store updates, flyers, goals, and schedules by checking the bulletin board daily
Provide backup cashier or sales support in other departments as needed
Qualification
Required
High School diploma or equivalent
Strong multitasking and organizational skills
Mechanical aptitude and comfort with using tinting machines and handheld tools
Basic math skills for calculating surface area and paint needs
Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Ability to see and read product labels, dispense product knowledge, and communicate with customers
Manual dexterity and ability to make appropriate change for customers
Ability to stand for extended periods of time
Regular bending, climbing, and lifting
Must be able to lift and/or move items up to 56 pounds
Preferred
Prior retail or customer service experience preferred; knowledge of paint and hardware products a plus
