Responsibilities

Understand the allocation of requirements of the different LRU’s, within a given antenna system, and optimize for the desired performance
Support the engineering design, development and sustaining activities for Viasat commercial terminal antenna systems
Collaborate with other engineering fields during the integration and test activities at the terminal assembly level
Ensure regulatory compliance for all commercial terminal antenna systems
Acknowledged as an authority in the technical field for finding opportunities with external antenna providers
Stay informed about antenna system innovations to position Viasat to apply groundbreaking technology

Required

10+ years of experience, and a proven understanding, associated with antenna system design principles and measurements
Fundamental understanding of Antenna System engineering principles such as EIRP, G/T, sidelobes, linearity, NF, Gain and VSWR
Strong understanding of RF/satellite communication theory
Displayed proficiency in RF testing antennas to establish the best approach for testing a particular antenna product
Experience exercising detailed RF testing using various test equipment required to characterize and validate RF component performance such as amplifiers, switches, ect
Experience with regulatory requirements including FCC, ETSI, ITU, ect
Experience and familiarity of RF test components such as waveguide, cabling, filters, power dividers and terminations
Problem-solving skills to isolate and resolve sophisticated antenna system problems Ability to provide technical support across multiple and simultaneous product developments and sustaining activities
Ability to develop alternative solutions to maintain project timelines
Previous experience providing cost and schedule estimates for both new proposals and sustaining activities
Sound communication and organizational skills
Demonstrated build expertise and thoroughness
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related engineering field or equivalent experience
Ability to support up to 20% travel (averaged over a year)

Preferred

Master of Science in Engineering
Previous experience working with millimeter-wave bands
Previous experience with phased array antenna design and test
Strong mechanical proficiency
Experience with antenna manufacturing production processes
Experience collaborating with the supply chain team to offer technical feedback on supplier decisions, such as make vs buy trade-offs, etc
