Motor Carrier Compliance Investigator

The State of Utah's Department of Transportation is seeking a Motor Carrier Compliance Investigator to evaluate commercial motor carriers for compliance. Responsibilities

Independently plan and carry out civil investigations and/or audits into private property, for-hire, agricultural, passenger and hazardous material commercial motor carriers; determine known facts and obtain pertinent information by visiting places of business, conducting personal interviews, examining company records, etc.; compare discovered information against state and federal regulations to determine compliance; discuss findings with the respective companies; offer technical assistance to resolve compliance problems and support corrective action
Use agency software, Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Pro to create detailed reports of findings and provide evidence for enforceable violations
Provide the motoring public, drivers, commercial motor carriers and neighboring agencies with technical assistance, education and outreach support as it pertains to state and federal regulations
Plan and conduct unannounced CVSA inspections of both commercial motor vehicles and driver documentation at carrier places of business and at state Ports of Entry to determine driver and company compliance; note deficiencies and declare vehicles and/or drivers out-of-service in accordance with established policies

Required

Be comfortable dealing with conflict
Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
Have experience with research and technical writing
Be at least 18 years of age
Have a valid driver's license
Be able to type 40 words per minute
Possess a range of computer skills

Preferred

Have experience interpreting and applying state and/or federal regulations
Live within 50 miles of the work reporting location
Are bilingual
