Responsibilities
The Industrial Engineer ensures that production operations are ready to go at the scheduled start of production, effectively using lean methodologies to meet or exceed performance standards
The Industrial Engineer will work directly with manufacturing groups like assembly and sub-assembly in defining and optimizing manufacturing flow and process steps
The responsibility will be focusing on the Horseheads, NY location, but also collaborating with IE’s working out of Krefeld, Germany, Sacramento, CA, and Lexington, NC to ensure a successful ramp-up of this new production line
Learning the processes for development of Manufacturing Bill of Materials (MBOM’s) in SAP with the authorities in our lead factory in Krefeld, Germany (for 3 -6 months)
Following the training period candidate will be located in Horseheads, NY, at the High-speed Rail manufacturing center, leading all production planning activities
Evaluating/documenting production processes in coordination with manufacturing experts at the Krefeld plant and providing inputs for the factory layout design team in the US, that is working on the infrastructure setup
Reviewing engineering drawings, 3D models using Pro-E or PTC Creo to gain an understanding of manufacturing process requirements, such as job sequence, workflow, and takt time
Aligning with your team on the goals of safety and delivery
Ensuring that adequate space and infrastructure are in place in preparation for the new project or product launch
Implementing cases for capital expenditures such as new tools, equipment, or infrastructure. e.g., new buildings, new finishing booths, new cranes based on review and analysis of future backlog or improvement of current infrastructure
Preparing future production floor layouts to meet planned takt time and schedule
Able to design / source tools, templates, jigs, and fixtures using engineering requirements, engineering drawings, or with products already existing on the production floor without prints
Leading manufacturing improvements, sophisticated process changes, and technology
Coordinating and communicating technical information to and from all levels of the organization, including vendors, project managers, production team members, and operations managers
Qualification
Required
3—5 years of experience in planning and support in the launch of vehicle production, new factory layout development
Bachelor's Degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering
Work experience in the rail/aviation business (if Rail -- preferably in heavy rail)
Firm project management skills, including developing project plans, timelines/schedules, budgets, proposed layouts, resource requirements, calculating return on investment, etc
Practical knowledge of the lean toolbox and the ability to apply lean principles to reduce waste
A history of “hands-on” approach to problem solving and countermeasure implementation within own areas of responsibility
Practical knowledge, implementing new plant roll-out, ensuring timelines/schedules, and budgets are maintained
A history of driving projects in a very dynamic environment, and completion on time
The position requires extensive travel in the United States and internationally for extended periods of time for at least the first twenty-four (24) months and possibly longer to complete in-person job training, which will be vital to your and the Horseheads facility's success
