The Director of Indian Child & Family Well-Being Program provides support and consultation on Indian Child Welfare issues and works on projects to promote culturally appropriate services for American Indian/Alaska Native children and families.

Responsibilities

Provide direct consultation to Tribes, and jurisdictions that advance Casey’s goals and supports implementation of reduction efforts to reduce the number of American Indian and Alaskan Native children in care as well as efforts to improve well-being Works with management to ensure alignment with organizational values, goals, and directives in all work performed
Research, and gather data from federal, state, Tribal and other partners that track safe reduction and well-being measures of AI/AN children in care. Tracks and analyzes emerging state, local, and federal policy issues and trends affecting AI/AN children and families who are in or are potentially entering into care. Develops appropriate policy and programmatic responses to the policy and data information. Briefs and makes recommendations to Casey team members on best practices and ways to improve child welfare for AI/AN youth. Identifies, develops and partners with Tribal programs and/or urban Indian organizations on innovative strategies for prevention and safe reduction. Tracks and analyzes outcomes for youth served through partnerships
Coordinates and pulls in internal and external resources to provide technical assistance necessary to address the specific Indian child welfare needs of the Tribes and jurisdiction in the area of child welfare and prevention. Works closely with other CFS staff to ensure resource allocation is prioritized and used effectively. Builds and maintains close association and working relationships with public and Tribal child welfare leadership that are interested in or involved in the work of Casey in reduction, reinvestment, and the 2025 goals. Identifies and tracks emerging trends and best practices in Tribal child welfare service delivery, and briefs and makes recommendations to Casey team members on methods to improve child welfare outcomes for AI/AN youth
Manage complete project plans ensuring the plan includes an accurate reflection of the terms of the plan; measurable outcomes; business processes; required resources; and established budget
Ensures adherence to Casey policies in all matters of practice, contracts, communications, resources, personnel and reporting. Develops, edits, and approves work plans prior to submission to Legal, Finance, or other parties before finalization. Develops and maintains contracts and agreements once they are in Acts as a good steward of Casey resources – in expenses and funding – but also in labor hours in applying appropriate amounts of resources to each project

Required

A college degree with at least 8 years in relevant experience required – recent experience in public administration in Indian child welfare, foster care, or related field
Familiarity with the Indian Child Welfare Act, Tribal Child Welfare practices, and other laws or best practices which are relevant to the well-being of Indian children and families is required
Knowledge of and responsible experience with collaborations, agreements, and partnerships, especially among government agencies and Tribes is needed
Knowledge about, competence in and familiarity with the infrastructures of state and Tribal child welfare systems required
A valid driver's license and the ability to travel are imperative to successful performance in meeting the responsibilities of this position
Must pass a criminal background check
Proven effectiveness and ease in a multi-cultural environment is required
Ability to perform effectively in high pressure and stressful work environments
Ability to manage stress and self-care
Ability to work onsite full-time to meet the collaborative responsibilities that are essential for the position
Regular and reliable attendance is required
Physical requirements include the ability to lift and reach for light objects; ability to type and work at a computer for extended periods of time as a primary job function
Ability to protect the confidentiality of sensitive information by learning and following all relevant policies and protocols and using sound judgment in the handling and sharing of that information
Local travel as well as occasional out of town travel requiring use of rental automotives may be necessary
Driving on Casey business may require use of personal vehicle; adherence to vehicle safety guidelines and qualification for insurance is required
