SVP AND CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
Covenant Health is a Catholic health ministry, and they are seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to ensure the long-term financial strength and stewardship of their health system. Responsibilities
Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and executive team, aligning financial strategy with Catholic social teaching, the Ethical and Religious Directives (ERDs), and the system’s mission and values
Lead long-range financial planning, capital prioritization, and scenario modeling to support sustainable growth and service to the community
Promote a culture of stewardship, ensuring resources are used responsibly and in ways that advance the health system’s ministry
Provide insights on market trends, reimbursement shifts, and regulatory changes, with attention to equity and community benefit
Provide expert insight into reimbursement trends, payer mix shifts, cost pressures, and regulatory changes
Support system integration, affiliation strategies, and performance transformation initiatives
Oversee all financial operations across the health system, including accounting, budgeting, treasury, revenue cycle, reimbursement, supply chain, information technology & information systems, case management and utilization review, and financial reporting
Ensure accuracy, transparency, and compliance with GAAP, CMS regulations, state reporting requirements, and audit standards
Direct the development of annual operating and capital budgets that reflect mission priorities, clinical needs, and strategic growth initiatives
Manage capital structure, including debt financing and relationships with banks, rating agencies, and bondholders
Collaborate closely with ministry leaders—hospital presidents, clinical executives, service line leaders, and post-acute care leadership—to support operational excellence and mission-focused financial performance
Oversee revenue cycle effectiveness, ensuring practices that balance financial sustainability with compassion and dignity in patient billing and financial assistance
Monitor and improve key operating metrics such as labor productivity, supply chain performance, cost per case, length of stay, and payer mix
Strengthen decision support, cost accounting, and service line analysis to guide value-based care delivery
Lead reimbursement strategy, including cost reports, value-based payment programs, DSH/UC opportunities, and payer negotiations support
Ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer requirements, as well as state and federal healthcare regulations
Maintain effective internal controls and risk management programs consistent with ethical and regulatory expectations
Support community benefit reporting and initiatives that extend the healing mission to underserved populations
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance and revenue cycle team that embraces the ministries’ mission, values, and culture of service
Strengthen financial literacy across clinical and operational teams through education, coaching, and partnership
Foster a collaborative, compassionate, and accountable culture aligned with Catholic identity and the organization’s commitment to dignity, justice, and excellence
Provide clear, accessible financial reports and strategic recommendations to the Board of Trustees and Finance Committee
Build and maintain strong relationships with auditors, lenders, regulators, community leaders, and Catholic ministry partners
Communicate complex financial matters in a manner that reflects transparency, integrity, and respect for stakeholders
Work collaboratively with financial advisers and CEO to prepare and present annual bond rating and bond holder presentations, while ensuring that all requirements for public reporting are maintained
Qualification
Required
Master's degree (MBA, MHA, Finance, Accounting, Healthcare Administration, or related field) required
Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare finance within a hospital or health system, ideally with exposure to mission-based or Catholic healthcare environments
Deep knowledge of healthcare reimbursement, revenue cycle operations, and financial forecasting
Demonstrated success in partnering with clinical and operational leaders while upholding organizational values
Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills with a commitment to ethical, transparent decision-making
Preferred
CPA or equivalent financial certification strongly preferred
