Responsibilities

Participates in editorial meetings. Assists in scheduling and segment production, including writing, pre-interviewing, editing, copying and distributing schedules and scripts. Briefs the host. Books, produces and edits taped interview segments as assigned. Actively incorporates various perspectives and voices into the editorial process. Identifies omissions in our coverage and suggests ways to mitigate them
Produces podcast version of the program and web posts as assigned. Assists with producing show content for other digital platforms. Creates show web posts working with the KUT News digital team. Works with host, managing producer, editorial and programming team to develop novel and innovative ways to present content online, on social media, and on air. Ensures that all content produced by the Austin Signal team meets KUT standards of accuracy, fairness and balance. Other duties as assigned
Fills in for Managing Producer to direct the show, approve audio elements for air, set the show rundown with the host, and prepare for the next show
Works to ensure the consistent flow of communication among the Austin Signal and KUT News team and with partners like the Texas Newsroom
Reports as assigned. Creates, coordinates, writes and produces original news segments. Assist with daily promos and other content. Covers live events as assigned

Required

Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field
At least 5 years of professional experience producing or reporting for a news organization
Strong verbal, writing, editing, and online production skills
Excellent attention to detail with the ability to work well under pressure
Solid news judgment
Knowledge of AP style
Familiarity with content management systems and publishing content on different digital platforms, including website and social media

Preferred

5+ years of professional experience producing content for a news outlet
Experience in a public radio newsroom
Experience producing and editing audio, photos and video
Experience operating an audio board and hosting live radio
Proficiency in Adobe Audition and the rest of their Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere
Spanish language skills
