Survivor Representation Project Immigration Attorney

This role involves providing quality legal representation and advice in immigration matters for survivors of domestic violence, ensuring they receive the support they need to navigate the legal system.

Non-profit Organization Management

Responsibilities

Providing legal representation and advice, as appropriate, to qualified survivors of domestic violence in Union County seeking assistance with immigration matters
Coordinating representation, as needed, with the Family Law Attorney
Holding once weekly "office hours" for FJC clients with legal questions
In coordination with the Family Law Attorney, supervising and assigning work to the Court Advocate/Paralegal
Attending regular meetings for all stakeholders in project including internal YWCA team members and external Family Justice Center partners
Becoming familiar with the partners and legal referrals used by the FJC and refer victims as necessary
Documentation: maintain case records for clients, and maintain other records as needed
Participating in monthly project team meetings with the Director of Family Justice Center, weekly FJC meetings and weekly supervision meetings
Assisting with any funder reporting requirements
Attending monthly YWCA staff meetings
Completing the 40 Hour Domestic Violence training
Attend and participate in community and board of director meetings as needed
Represent the Agency to other organizations as assigned
Represent the YWCA on external committees, as appropriate
Participate in staff meetings and trainings on a regular basis
Other duties as assigned by supervisory personnel

J.D. from accredited law schoolLicensed to practice lawAdvocacyLitigation skillsImmigration law experienceBilingual English/SpanishMicrosoft Office proficiencyPowerPoint proficiencyExcel proficiencyVerbal communication skillsWritten communication skills

Required

Must have a J.D. from an accredited law school
Must be licensed to practice law in New Jersey
Must possess excellent advocacy and litigation skills
Knowledge of and sensitivity to the problems of domestic violence
Minimum of two years experience practicing immigration
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge of computer programs including but not limited to Microsoft office, PowerPoint, and Excel

Preferred

Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred
