Research Specialist II (SOM Ped Hematology)

Inside Higher Ed is seeking a Research Specialist II for the new laboratory in the Division of Pediatric Hematology. The successful candidate will provide administrative and project support while conducting molecular biology experiments and assisting in the development of genome editing therapeutics.

Responsibilities

Optimize and conduct molecular biology, cell culture, and mouse model experiments
Develop and design genome editing therapeutics and lipid nanoparticle formulation
Production of genome editor mRNA and lipid nanoparticle formulation, conduct quality control
Assess efficacy and safety of the therapeutic
Conduct statistical analysis and report on outcomes for publication
Independently optimize, perform, and analyze data from high-level assays including digital PCR, next-generation sequencing, and CUT&RUN
Use scientific knowledge and lab experience to make judgments and decisions that define research objectives
Make scientific contribution to protocol development, efficiency, and productivity
Follow established procedures or protocols and utilizes aseptic technique to perform laboratory tests and/or experiments which include: cell culture, immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, microscopy, and other basic molecular biology techniques
Use various software applications and graphics packages to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or test reports
Participate in the organization and operation of the laboratory
Perform general lab maintenance duties, may need to order and manage supplies and reagents of the lab
Prepares solutions, reagents, and stains following standard laboratory formulas and procedures
Contribute to writing peer-reviewed manuscripts and grant proposals
Communicate with collaborators to plan experiments and discuss results
Process analyzed data into figures for scientific publications and presentations
Order oligonucleotide libraries, synthetic genes, and lab supplies
Record research data activity

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field
Two years laboratory experience performing relevant techniques
Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula

Preferred

Experience with molecular biology (including advanced) techniques, cell culture, and mouse work
Working knowledge of one or more of the following disciplines achieved through undergraduate studies and laboratory experience: biology, biochemistry, chemistry, physics, microbiology and/or genetics
Able to work in BSL2+ cell culture and mouse facilities
