CNC Operations Manager
EMT Metals is a precision metal fabrication and CNC machining partner serving top-tier OEMs across aerospace, defense, and industrial markets. The CNC Operations Manager will lead the precision machining division, focusing on production scheduling, operational efficiency, quality, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
Own end-to-end production scheduling for CNC machining, including labor assignments, machine loading, and priority sequencing across two shifts
Translate demand into executable daily and weekly schedules that maximize throughput and on-time delivery
Balance people, machines, tooling, and programs to eliminate bottlenecks and reduce expediting
Drive schedule adherence and rapid recovery from disruptions
Use ERP System (JobBOSS) to maintain accurate routings, labor standards, capacity assumptions, and schedule visibility
Provide technical leadership on complex CNC setups, prove-outs, and process stabilization
Drive improvements in setup time, cycle time, tooling strategy, and process repeatability
Partner closely with CNC Engineering to ensure programs, fixtures, and tooling are production-ready before release
Eliminate 'schedule fiction' by ensuring standards reflect actual shop capability
Lead, coach, and develop CNC leads, machinists, and operators across both shifts
Schedule staffing to skill sets, certifications, and machine requirements; build depth and redundancy
Establish and enforce clear standards for setups, inspections, documentation, and shift handoffs
Hire, train, and retain talent while driving accountability, professionalism, and a strong safety culture
Manage first-article inspections, traveler compliance, and standards
Support Quality with containment, root cause analysis, and corrective actions for nonconformances
Reduce scrap, rework, and customer escapes through permanent corrective actions embedded into scheduling and process controls
Install and sustain standard work, visual management, and daily management routines
Coordinate preventive maintenance and rapid response to downtime to protect the schedule with the Maintenance Team
Improve spindle utilization, labor efficiency, and overtime control through better planning and execution
Qualification
Required
7+ years in CNC machining environments with significant prior hands-on setup experience
Proven experience scheduling people and equipment in a CNC production environment
Demonstrated leadership running CNC operations (beyond supervision)
Strong working knowledge of CNC turning and milling, including multi-axis machining
Track record improving delivery performance, efficiency, and quality
Strong blueprint reading and GD&T fundamentals
Ability to lead change in a transformational environment
Preferred
AS9100D Aerospace & Defense quality system exposure
Experience working with ERP systems (JobBOSS)
Knowledge of Mastercam and SolidWorks Software
Lean or continuous improvement experience in machining operations
College degree in manufacturing, engineering, or related field preferred
