The role involves assisting with instructional programs, facilitating communication, and supervising students during various activities.
Primary/Secondary Education
Responsibilities
Collaborate with the classroom teacher to coordinate instruction for English language learners
Communicate with mainstream and Special Service Teachers to facilitate student access to special services
Assist with the administration of mandated English proficiency assessments which would include ACCESS screening and testing and IMAGE
Interpret complex vocabulary and/or concepts to accelerate student comprehension
Facilitate communication with parents
Provide assistance to the student(s) with other class projects and initiatives as deemed appropriate
Assist in monitoring and supervising students during field trips and special school events
Supervise outdoor recess periods, lunch periods and bus supervision before and after school as assigned and enforce expectations for student behavior
Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information
Perform other tasks and responsibilities assigned by the supervisor(s)
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or equivalent, some college preferred
Must meet ISBE Licensure requirements for student interaction
Demonstrates native or near native oral and written fluency in Spanish
Demonstrates proficient use of the English language in written and oral forms to facilitate communication with cooperating teachers
Establishes and maintains effective working relations with staff and the public
Uses/operates computer equipment related to the position/job
Possess good organizational and clerical skills
Able to demonstrate patience and gain student cooperation
Able to assist in the implementation of an instructional program and to participate in monitoring and ensuring appropriate student behavior for all students
