Software Research and Development Engineer
The Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State University is seeking a motivated and talented Software Engineer to join their Comprehensive Software Solutions Department. The role involves developing applications, maintaining documentation, and supporting field testing for various projects.

Work closely with a team to develop applications to best fit project needs
Maintain version tracking and code documentation
Support field testing – to include remote or in person troubleshooting of software system
Rigorously test application and write unit tests, if required for project
Qualification
Required
Programming in C/C++, C#, Java, or Python
Use of version tracking tools – Jira, Git
Creativity in problem solving
Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication and presentation skills
Bachelor's Degree - Engineering or Science
2+ years of relevant experience (if filled as Research and Development Engineer - Intermediate Professional)
No prior relevant work experience required (if filled as Research and Development Engineer - Professional)
Ability to obtain a government security clearance
Must be a U.S. citizen
Successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen
Preferred
A degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science
Embedded software development
Graphical user interface development
Current eligibility for access to classified information at the TS/SCI level or higher and may be subject to a government background investigation to upgrade clearance eligibility, if required
