Community Engagement & Development Coordinator (Part-Time)
African American Historical Research & Consulting (AAHRC) is a nationally recognized leader in preserving and promoting African American history. The Community Engagement & Development Coordinator will support community outreach, fundraising, and programming for the Decatur Scottsboro Boys Civil Rights Museum, ensuring effective implementation of initiatives and strong community relationships.
Responsibilities
Support fundraising and donor development, including tracking donations, managing donor correspondence, and coordinating acknowledgments
Assist with the capital campaign and related outreach efforts across the Decatur and North Alabama region
Coordinate community engagement activities, including public programs, volunteer opportunities, and museum events
Conduct outreach to local churches, schools, civic groups, and businesses to build support and partnerships
Schedule and help facilitate meetings with potential donors, sponsors, and community partners
Maintain accurate records of outreach, donations, and community contacts
Assist with museum communications, including social media updates, newsletters, and public announcements
Collaborate with AAHRC leadership to develop reports, presentations, and updates for the Board and stakeholders
Provide general administrative support related to the museum’s fundraising and community initiatives
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and extensive professional experience in administration, public service, nonprofit operations, communications, or a related field
Demonstrated experience in administrative leadership, office management, and supervisory roles, including oversight of staff, vendors, contracts, and compliance requirements
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with comfort speaking to community groups and donors
Organized, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple priorities independently
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general office technology, with the ability to learn and support basic digital tools and platforms, including email marketing systems and social media as needed
Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, and integrity gained through long-term service in state and county agencies
Commitment to AAHRC's mission and to the preservation of African American history and heritage
Preferred
Experience in fundraising, donor relations, or event coordination preferred
Familiarity with Decatur and surrounding communities strongly preferred
