Legal Advocates for Safe Science and Technology (LASST) is dedicated to promoting safety in the advancement of science and technology. The Lawyer role focuses on providing legal advocacy related to the safe advancement and application of science and technology, including drafting legal documents and representing the organization in legal proceedings.

Responsibilities

Draft legal documents
Conduct legal research
Analyze policy implications
Represent the organization in legal proceedings
Collaborate with stakeholders, including policymakers, scientists, and industry leaders
Identify emerging legal challenges in science and technology
Advise on regulatory compliance
Develop strategies to advance LASST's mission of safety and sustainability

Required

JD from a top law school
Licensed to practice law in at least one US state
Minimum 3 years' litigation or other court-focused experience, including any clerkships
Ability and willingness to think outside the box and be creative in pursuit of a mission
Flexible, collaborative, and proactive
Self-starter
Able to work with a small, collaborative team and also operate independently

Preferred

Prior work on public-interest topics related to biosecurity, AI safety, or science/tech policy
Previous plaintiff-side litigation experience
Experience with Google and Microsoft Suites, LexisNexis
