The Electrical Engineer / BIM Detailer is responsible for engineering design and detailed BIM modeling of commercial electrical systems, bridging preconstruction and operations to support fabrication and field installation.
Construction
Responsibilities
Develop electrical system designs for design-build and design-assist projects
Produce load calculations, panel schedules, one-lines, equipment layouts, and riser diagrams
Ensure compliance with NEC, local codes, AHJ requirements, and project specifications
Support estimating with engineered solutions, clarifications, and value engineering options
Respond to RFIs and support engineering for change orders and field-driven scope changes
Review submittals and shop drawings for technical compliance
Develop and maintain electrical BIM models using Revit
Produce coordinated shop drawings for power, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems
Perform clash detection and coordination with other trades
Incorporate approved submittals, RFIs, and field input into models
Support prefabrication planning and installation sequencing
Maintain BIM standards, families, and project templates
Work closely with estimators, project managers, foremen, and field teams
Participate in job walks, coordination meetings, and client reviews
Support project handoff, construction execution, and closeout/as-built documentation
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
4+ years of combined electrical engineering and BIM/detailing experience
Strong working knowledge of NEC and commercial electrical systems
Proficiency in Revit (electrical systems required)
Ability to produce both engineered drawings and construction-ready shop drawings
Experience supporting electrical contractors (preferred over consulting-only backgrounds)
Strong communication, coordination, and time-management skills
Preferred
Design-build or design-assist project experience
Experience with Navisworks for clash detection
Experience with prefabrication workflows
Field electrical experience (Journeyman, Apprentice, or Foreman background)
EIT or PE license (or progress toward licensure)
