Vice President of Philanthropy

The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Silicon Valley Chapter is dedicated to breaking the cycle of generational poverty through high-quality social services. The Vice President of Philanthropy will lead the fundraising and external relations efforts, ensuring the organization has the necessary resources and visibility to achieve its mission.

Non-profit Organization Management

Responsibilities

Serve as a key advisor to the Executive Director and Board on philanthropic strategy and community engagement
Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive, multi-year fund development and marketing plan aligned with HTHF's strategic priorities
Foster an organizational culture of philanthropy, ensuring that all staff and board members understand and embrace their roles as ambassadors and advocates
Drive significant growth in contributed revenue through major gifts, individual giving, corporate and foundation partnerships, planned giving, special events, and capital/endowment campaigns
Actively engage, cultivate, and solicit major donors and prospects in partnership with the Executive Director and board members
Serve as HTHF's chief external ambassador, cultivating high-level relationships with donors, business leaders, elected officials, and philanthropic partners
Ensure the consistent delivery of compelling, mission-driven messaging across all fundraising, marketing, and communication channels
Provide visionary leadership, coaching, and development to the philanthropy and marketing teams
Attract, retain, and inspire top fundraising and communications talent, building a high-performing team focused on results
Establish clear performance metrics for staff and oversee the effective use of donor management systems and reporting tools
Work closely with the HTHF Board of Directors, committees, and affinity groups to strengthen governance and fundraising leadership
Recruit, train, and support volunteers to actively participate in donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts
Guide the growth and engagement of affinity groups, including Women of Hope, and foster a pipeline of future board and community leaders
Oversee the development and monitoring of the annual fundraising budget, ensuring fiscal accountability and revenue targets are met or exceeded
Analyze fundraising performance data to inform strategy, adjust tactics, and ensure continuous improvement
Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, ethical standards, and best practices in fundraising and donor stewardship
Attend company sponsored events that relate to the development of the team, which, from time to time, may include overnight stays at locations away from the employee's home

Required

Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or CFRE designation preferred
Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in nonprofit fundraising and external relations, with at least 3-5 years in a senior leadership or executive-level role
Proven track record of securing significant major gifts and leading successful fundraising campaigns
Experience managing and inspiring a team to achieve ambitious revenue and engagement goals
A deep passion for HTHF's mission and a commitment to equity and community impact
Exceptional relationship-building, communication, and interpersonal skills
Strategic thinker with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans and measurable results
Confident, inspirational leader who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
Knowledge of philanthropy trends, donor behaviors, and best practices in nonprofit management
Strong business acumen, including budget management and financial oversight
Proficiency in CRM/donor database systems and Microsoft Office Suite
Skilled in leveraging digital platforms, social media, and emerging technologies to enhance fundraising and communications
Ability to work evenings, holidays and weekends as required
Ability to travel to off-site meetings, trainings, and events
Ability to pass TB skin test and background check
