Responsibilities

The Accountant Senior performs advanced professional work involving the analysis and interpretation of fiscal data and the application of accounting principles to manage key financial functions with agency-wide implications

The position manages accounts payable functions related to employee travel, including reviewing and approving travel reimbursements, providing customer service and policy interpretation, and conducting training on travel reimbursement procedures

The Accountant Senior also serves as the travel system administrator, maintaining system integrity, access, and workflow, while ensuring timely and accurate processing of travel expenses in accordance with state travel regulations

Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate financial policies effectively are essential for success in this role

This position may supervise other fiscal professionals and support staff to ensure the efficient operation of financial processes and compliance with regulations

Required

Knowledge of accounting, financial, accounts payable, reconciliations, and travel principles and policies

Experience utilizing data tracking and reporting systems to manage and maintain detailed financial records, generate reports, and analyze trends or projections

Working knowledge of expense reporting and analysis, including research and trend analysis to support fiscal decision-making

Excellent written and verbal communication skills to provide travel guidance and training to staff, report findings, and interact with internal and external stakeholders

Experience reconciling financial data and resolving discrepancies using source documents and internal systems
