Responsibilities
Meet with taxpayers to determine tax liability, calculation and preparation of income tax returns
Process cash payments, issuing receipts, and balancing daily transactions
Conducts research and extensive audits of tax filing for accuracy against established standards in compliance with the Newark Income Tax Ordinances
Collects fees and issues licenses/permits in compliance with the Newark Codified Ordinances
Maintains and balances accounting data in ledgers and journals
Contacts banks for balances, transfers, and maintains records of all transactions
Process and verifies electronic tax filings and electronic payments
Performs various clerical duties i.e. computer input/Word processing, answer phones, process mail and maintains files
All other duties as required
Qualification
Required
Two-year degree in accounting or equivalent experience
Two years experience in accounting with emphasis in tax, payroll, and finance accounting
One-year experience in general clerical and cash handling procedures including daily balancing of cash drawer
Ability to learn electronic banking including processing of EFT and ACH transfers
Efficient in Microsoft Office software and 10-key pad operation of CRT
Ability to communicate in writing and in person with general public, banking officials, City Officials, and accounting professionals
