Keystone Recruitment is seeking an experienced Rust Developer to contribute to a research and development initiative for one of their clients. In this remote role, you will design, implement, and optimize backend APIs while collaborating with AI research teams to shape next-generation developer tools.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and optimize REST and GraphQL endpoints for scalable backend APIs
Ensure robust data validation, error handling, and security best practices
Plan and execute database migrations, optimizations, and schema changes as required
Test AI-powered models in tools like Cursor, documenting actionable feedback through incident reports, bug traces, and screenshots
Participate in intensive testing bursts to explore AI model impacts on real coding workflows
Engage with the research team via Slack or other channels to discuss findings and propose improvements
Submit detailed post-burst surveys to deliver insights on model performance and developer experience

Required

5+ years of professional experience as a backend developer with strong Rust expertise
Proficiency in building and maintaining RESTful and GraphQL APIs
Advanced knowledge of backend data validation, error handling, and API security
Hands-on experience with database migrations, performance tuning, and schema design
Familiarity with AI coding tools; experience with Cursor is a plus
Excellent written and verbal communication, including incident and bug reporting
Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, confidential, and collaborative remote environments

Preferred

Contributions to open source projects (e.g., GitHub)
Experience designing or evaluating experimental tooling and developer workflows
Demonstrated enthusiasm for AI advancements in software development
