The Principal Additive Manufacturing Engineer will lead the development and optimization of additive manufacturing processes, drive continuous improvement, and provide expert guidance to a team of engineers and technicians.

Responsibilities

Lead the development and optimization of additive manufacturing processes, with a focus on FDM/FFF technologies

Drive continuous improvement in printing processes through advanced G-code optimization and rigorous Design of Experiments (DOE) studies to enhance quality, speed, and reliability of our manufacturing process

Provide expert guidance and mentorship to a team of engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement

Dissect complex challenges into manageable tasks, diagnose root causes, and implement robust solutions across the production workflow

Collaborate cross-functionally with senior leadership, product design and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration and communication

Drive research and development of new materials and processes, including material qualification and performance validation

Develop advanced G-code post-processing scripts and automation tools, with a focus on programming in Python or other languages, to enhance workflow efficiency and integrate with production systems

Serve as a technical authority on 3D printing, providing insights and expertise to guide key business decisions and initiatives

Contribute to the company's intellectual property (IP) portfolio by identifying and protecting novel processes and technologies

Required

A minimum of 5-10 years of professional work experience using and programming FDM/FFF 3D printing technology or CNC machines

A minimum of 5-10 years of experience with FDM/FFF 3D printing technology

Proven track record of demonstrated leadership and project management in a technical environment

Extensive experience with deep-level process optimization and a strong understanding of FDM/FFF printer calibration, thermal dynamics, and material science

Exceptional problem-solving and diagnostic skills with the ability to manage complex technical challenges

Expertise in developing custom G-code post-processing scripts, preferably in Python

Strong understanding of and experience with materials and process development

Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively across departments using various project management tools

Must be willing to relocate to Ventura, CA
