Senior Consultant

Bolton is seeking an experienced Senior Consultant to lead and deliver strategic consulting services across a broad portfolio of Health & Welfare benefits programs. This role involves serving as a trusted advisor to clients, guiding plan design, financial strategy, and vendor negotiations, while mentoring junior staff and supporting business development efforts.

Responsibilities

Serve as the primary consultant and relationship manager for assigned client groups
Lead consulting engagements across medical, pharmacy, dental, life, disability, vision, FSA/HSA, voluntary benefits, and reinsurance
Drive claims analysis, renewal strategy, and financial modeling to support long-term client decision-making
Manage RFPs, vendor searches, and carrier negotiations on behalf of clients
Oversee plan implementations, open enrollment strategies, and employee communications
Present complex financial and compliance topics clearly to client leadership teams
Identify cost drivers, utilization trends, benchmarking insights, and plan design opportunities
Stay current on healthcare marketplace trends, ACA requirements, and regulatory changes
Mentor and develop junior consultants and analysts
Support client development and growth efforts, including finalist presentations and conferences

Required

Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience
15+ years of experience in health & welfare consulting, brokerage, or carrier environments
Deep expertise in group health plan strategy, pricing, and financial analysis
Proven success managing complex client relationships and multiple projects simultaneously
Strong presentation, communication, and executive-level consulting skills
Demonstrated experience leading teams and mentoring junior staff
Working knowledge of benefits administration platforms and healthcare compliance (ACA)
Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

Preferred

CEBS designation or actuarial/underwriting training
Maryland Health & Life license (or ability to obtain within first year)
Maryland Health Exchange Agent/Broker certification (or commitment to obtain)
