Responsibilities

Works independently, with ability in at least one major areas of mill operations (Primary, Rolling and Finishing, Heat Treatment.)
Develops operating practices to produce quality steel products meeting or exceeding industry standards and customer requirements
Reviews manufacturing practices on an ongoing basis to ensure compliance with established operating practices
Design, execution and reporting of product development and quality improvement trials with some guidance from Senior Metallurgist
Interprets data and makes recommendations to Operations management
Investigates quality-related production problems and collaborates with other departments to find cost-effective solutions
Implements SPC techniques for quality and productivity enhancements
Manages disposition of material which does not meet requirements for intended application
Complete required training within designated timeframes and attend all required meetings
Understand and support the company’s goals and values and adhere to company, department, safety, quality, environmental, and ethics policies and procedures

Required

B.S. degree in Metallurgical Engineering or related discipline
At least 2 years of relevant post-graduate education or industry experience and/or demonstrated technical proficiency
Very good computer skills, including Microsoft 365 proficiency and the ability to navigate multiple databases
Strong analytical capability and problem-solving skills including some skill with SPC
Good communication, collaboration, interpersonal and teamwork skills

Preferred

Work experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably with a metallurgical focus)
Familiarity with AI tools
