Lab Technical Advisor
Commonwealth Rolled Products, Inc. is seeking a Lab Technical Advisor to actively participate in maintaining a zero incident safety culture. The role involves preparing samples, analyzing aluminum defects, conducting various tests in the R&D lab, and ensuring adherence to laboratory quality systems.

Responsibilities
Actively participate in maintaining a zero incident safety culture
Live and champion the Commonwealth Rolled Products core values; Safety, Integrity, Customer Focus, Ownership, Excellence, and Teamwork
Prepare samples by mounting and polishing relevant sections, and etching surfaces to highlight grain structure
Digital imaging of material structure and defects
Analyze aluminum defects, both surface and structural, via micro sections and perform root cause analysis
Consult scientific literature to determine the correct working method
Conducts Formability, Mechanical, Corrosion, and Adhesive Bond testing (R&D Lab)
Properly operates all general laboratory equipment and instrumentation associated with the Mechanical and Formability Test Labs, exhibiting excellent quality of work and safety techniques in their operation
Maintains the Laboratory Quality System by adherence to the Laboratory Quality Manuals and their supplements
Recognizes equipment malfunction and inaccuracies in analytical testing through the use of control charts, testing limits, tolerances, knowledge, and experience
Understands and adheres to up-to-date Work Instructions and Laboratory Quality Procedures while performing all required testing
Exhibits competence in all areas of data and/or result reporting. Provides accurate result reporting to all areas
Plans daily tasks and acquires needed assistance from co-workers if necessary, to ensure the satisfactory completion of essential and special request analyses
Provides minor maintenance and verification to equipment if needed to insure its proper operation, recording all work done in Equipment Control Manual (EC manual), or contacts the appropriate personnel for repairs and/ or assistance through work orders
Leads and carries out continuous improvement work as assigned by the Laboratory Manager
Qualification
Required
Minimum of a two-year college degree in technical field required. Extensive forming or testing experience may be substituted for a degree in exceptional circumstances
Previous experience in laboratory techniques and computer operations
Ability to sort data and understand document systems and procedures in order to recognize current and/or potential problems, initiating effective resolutions or improvements within area of discretion identified by manager
Ability to use logic and reasoning to analyze procedures and systems to determine cause and effect relationship of outputs and seek help for needed modifications or assistance
Employs personal knowledge, skills and expertise along with mutual cooperation, joint participation, effective communication, and dignity to co-workers to maintain a teamwork atmosphere
Preferred
Two-year college degree in chemistry, mechanical, or metallurgy discipline preferred
B.S. in Engineering is preferred
