Founding Managing Director - New York City
Compass Pro Bono is dedicated to empowering local nonprofits through strategic partnerships with business professionals. The Founding Managing Director will establish and execute a strategic vision for Compass Pro Bono in the New York City region, focusing on brand presence, volunteer recruitment, and fundraising efforts to ensure sustainability and impact.

Responsibilities
Establish and execute on a plan to optimize Compass New York City’s impact
Partner with the national CEO and New York City Board to set 3-year strategic goals for Compass New York City impact, programming, and partnerships
Develop and successfully execute on a plan to achieve those goals
Collaborate with the Board Chair to set and support execution of Board-level strategic initiatives in pursuit of those goals
Staff all Board and committee meetings
Build Compass Pro Bono’s brand recognition, reputation, and impact across the New York City region
Attend at least 5-10 regional volunteer, corporate, and/or funder/partner events / year
Secure 2-4 speaking engagements or earned media hits/year in New York City in forums where CSR professionals, corporate leaders, local nonprofits, or skilled volunteers congregate
Raise awareness of Compass Pro Bono’s full suite of services and programs to New York City nonprofits and potential New York City volunteers via multiple direct outreach channels (e.g. business school alumni clubs, nonprofit coalitions, etc…)
Gather stories and reports about Compass New York City’s programming and impact for use in Compass Pro Bono’s fundraising and marketing efforts
Be the point person for New York City nonprofits and volunteers
Recruit, cultivate, and steward New York City nonprofits and volunteers for all Compass Pro Bono programs (est. 30-50 nonprofits & 75-120 volunteers in year 1)
Conduct 25-50 scoping calls with New York City nonprofits/year
Lead 3-5 information sessions for New York City nonprofits and 5-15 information sessions for New York City volunteers/year
Ensure 100% of programming in the region meets or exceeds Compass Pro Bono’s quality standards
Implement On Track in New York City, including: recruiting 10-20 nonprofit applicants and 60-100 volunteers per cohort, training and facilitating a Client Selection Committee for each cohort, curating On Track project team and advisor matches for each selected nonprofit, holding orientations and trainings for On Track nonprofit and volunteer cohorts, checking in monthly during On Track project cycles with both nonprofits and volunteer team leads, and reviewing Mid-Project and End-of-Project survey data, and troubleshooting
Collaborate with Compass Pro Bono’s On Board, low bono strategic planning, and On Demand leads to source, solicit, and hand off New York City nonprofits and volunteers suitable for those programs
Contribute to the continued evolution of Compass Pro Bono’s programming by Participating in cross-Compass initiatives to improve volunteer and client recruitment, selection, training, and support; program service lines; program delivery; program data management; and program reporting
Informing Compass Pro Bono’s nonprofit and volunteer marketing collateral, application forms, info session decks, and training decks and guide their last-mile adaptation for New York City, and Informing Compass Pro Bono’s evolving strategy for using data for continuous program improvement
Raise a minimum of $500,000 from sources in New York City in your first 3 years, then grow annual fundraising year over year to support program needs and growth
Steward founding, and recruit new, corporate partners
Cultivate and secure New York City foundation funders
Steward, staff, and ultimately recruit new members to Compass New York City’s Board. Ensure 100% of New York City Board members follow through on their financial pledges and actively leverage their networks on behalf of Compass New York City
Steward founding Compass New York City non-Board donors and cultivate new individual donors, foundation grants, corporate sponsorships, and major gifts
Qualification
Required
Passion for Compass Pro Bono's mission
Demonstrated expertise and success in nonprofit fundraising, strategic visioning and execution, and nonprofit Board facilitation
Strong relationship-building and relationship-management skills
Self-starter with proven ability to stay on top of multiple requests and deadlines while working remotely
Team player who enjoys collaborating with colleagues
Proactive problem-solver with the drive to take initiative and the judgment to know when to seek guidance and support
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English, in writing, verbally, and visually
Excellent judgment and discretion with handling sensitive or confidential information
Preferred
Experience as a skills-based volunteer, or volunteering with or working in a nonprofit or social impact organization strongly preferred
Experience with G-Suite, Slack, and Salesforce a plus
