Senior R&D Engineer CFD & Optimization (Remote)

Diabatix is seeking a motivated and technically strong R&D Engineer to join their development team. The role involves researching, developing, and implementing advanced CFD- and optimization-based methods that power Diabatix’s generative design technology.

Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and validate advanced CFD-based methods for thermal analysis and design optimization
Contribute to the development of adjoint-based optimization and gradient-driven design workflows
Work with and extend CFD solvers, preferably OpenFOAM, including model development, solver customization, and performance improvements
Design and implement optimization algorithms for geometry and system-level design problems
Collaborate with application and product teams to translate industrial requirements into R&D priorities and technical solutions
Evaluate, prototype, and integrate AI/ML techniques where relevant, particularly for geometry handling, surrogate modeling, or physics-aware acceleration
Ensure robustness, accuracy, and scalability of algorithms for real-world industrial use cases
Participate in code reviews, testing, documentation, and knowledge sharing within the R&D team
Stay up to date with academic and industrial developments in CFD, optimization, and simulation-driven design

Required

Master's degree or PhD in Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related technical field
Strong background in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and thermal engineering
Experience with numerical optimization methods; adjoint methods are a strong plus
Hands-on experience with OpenFOAM development and C++ programming is highly desirable
Solid understanding of numerical methods, discretization techniques, and solver architectures
Ability to work independently on complex technical problems in a fast-paced R&D environment
Strong analytical skills and a structured, problem-solving mindset
Good communication skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines

Preferred

Experience or interest in AI/ML applied to physics-based problems (e.g. surrogate models, physics-informed ML, geometry representations) is a bonus
