Assistant Professor English - Creative Writing

Georgia Southern is a dynamic university with three vibrant campuses serving Southeast Georgia. The Assistant Professor of English in Creative Writing will be responsible for teaching, scholarly productivity, and service, focusing on enhancing the Creative Writing program and supporting student success.

Teaching three courses per term (six courses per year)
Ongoing scholarly productivity
Service responsibilities
Contributing to the Creative Writing concentration
Supporting graduate creative thesis options
Enhancing the program's ability to recruit and retain students through literary publishing and hosting events
Participating in launching an online Creative Writing concentration, expanding access and recruitment opportunities

Required

Earned Ph.D. or MFA in Creative Writing or a closely related field by August 1, 2026 with at least 18 graduate semester hours in creative writing coursework
A well-rounded creative writer with substantial publications in fiction, nonfiction, and/or poetry
At least one year experience teaching Creative Writing at the college level
Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives
Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development
Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of creative/scholarly activities as appropriate to the discipline

Preferred

Credentials to teach American Literature, particularly contemporary
Experience with managing a magazine and/or reading series, with demonstrated success in recruiting and retaining students through these activities
At least one full-length collection with a nationally-recognized literary press, either published or forthcoming
Record of innovative and excellent teaching
Demonstrated interest in and potential for interdisciplinary collaboration, including developing externally funded projects
