Research Specialist - II - NRCS

Responsibilities

Design and develop field experiments under the guidance of the project lead
Conduct field experiments and maintain research testbed on PVAMU research farm
Install and maintain field equipment and sensors
Collect, analyze, and store in situ measurements
Develop and perform assessments to identify problematic data, including gap filling, formulate and apply corrections
Identify and collect data available in the public domain for this project
Prepare datasets to share with other investigators or collaborators
Supervise and help undergraduate and graduate students
Assist faculty with field demonstrations for students and/or stakeholders, including farmers
Participates in extension and outreach activities as needed by the program; and performs other duties as necessary

Required

Bachelor's Degree
Six years of related experience in earth science, hydrology, soil science, geography, eco-hydrology, civil engineering, geosciences, agricultural engineering, or any other relevant academic field emphasizing remote sensing, carbon dynamics, climate change eco-hydrology
Strong written and oral communication skills
Strong quantitative and programming experiences in R, Python, and others
Considerable experience in spatial data analysis, laboratory analytical techniques, field research design, and project implementations at different scales (field and watershed)
Strong numerical modeling and analytical and statistical skills
Strong interest in working with multidisciplinary teams

Preferred

Master's degree or Ph.D. degree
A Ph.D. in earth science, hydrology, soil science, geography, eco-hydrology, civil engineering, geosciences, agricultural engineering, or any other relevant academic field emphasizing remote sensing, carbon dynamics, climate change eco-hydrology
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to effectively communicate with faculty, educators, and staff
Ability to organize tasks and prioritize work with minimal supervision
Knowledge of statistical analysis and Geographical Information System (GIS) software
Knowledge and understanding of Remote Sensing Tools and data
Knowledge and understanding of the mission and role of the Land Grant University System
