Associate Director of Web Content Strategy & User Experience, Division of Marketing and Communications
Rowan University is seeking an Associate Director of Web Content Strategy & User Experience to lead its centralized web team. This role involves providing direction and oversight for web experience, content strategy, and UX/UI design, ensuring that digital touchpoints align with the university's brand and engagement goals.

Responsibilities
Serve as a subject matter expert especially to academic units in web strategy, UX, information architecture, content governance, accessibility, SEO, and site optimization
Partner with the Director of Web Strategy & Development to inform long-term digital strategy, roadmap planning, and governance models
Provide consultation and alignment between the web team, Marketing, Enrollment, and other key university partners
Supervise, coach, and develop a team of Digital Strategists, UI/UX Designer, and product manager
Build and maintain efficient team processes, workflows, documentation, and onboarding programs
Prioritize tasks, balance workloads, remove roadblocks, and ensure timely completion of high-impact projects
Establish a strong culture of quality, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement
Oversee content strategy, content audits, and governance frameworks to ensure consistency, clarity, and accuracy across the university’s web ecosystem
Implement processes for ongoing content review, remediation, and publishing support
Provide guidance on writing for the web, information design, tone, voice, and brand alignment
Support and train campus content publishers to improve quality and maintain consistent standards
Lead the digital creative process for web design projects, from requirements to final production
Oversee information architecture planning, navigation structure improvements, and UX research
Ensure adherence to accessibility standards (WCAG), brand guidelines, and user-centered design principles
Collaborate with designers and stakeholders to develop web assets, including photo, video, and illustration needs
Lead SEO and CRO programs, including keyword strategy, content optimization, technical SEO alignment, and on-page improvements
Manage A/B testing, user flow analysis, and other optimization approaches to improve conversions and engagement
Partner with the Web and Marketing Analytics teams to develop dashboards, define KPIs, and measure performance
Run and distribute SiteImprove, accessibility, and maintenance reports, and lead follow-through on remediation
Provide strategic consultation to academic and administrative units on site planning, IA, content development, and optimization opportunities
Coordinate stakeholder meetings, discovery sessions, and content-gathering processes
Develop and deliver skills training for faculty, staff, and content publishers
Act as a primary point of escalation for content and UX-related issues
Oversee the intake, prioritization, and management of web enhancement requests
Maintain clear documentation of development tasks, design updates, and content needs
Manage vendor relationships to ensure timely, high-quality delivery aligned with project specifications
Ensure all projects meet timelines, scope, brand standards, and performance goals
Perform content review, publishing support, and remediation as needed
Ensure consistency in web design, content, accessibility, and UX across all pages and platforms
Support cross-functional initiatives tied to enrollment, brand, digital strategy, and institutional priorities
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Digital Media, Interactive Design, Marketing, or a related field
5–7 years of professional experience in web strategy, UX, content strategy, digital communications, or similar roles
3+ years of supervisory experience leading web strategists, content professionals, or designers
Demonstrated expertise in UX/UI practices, web content strategy, information architecture, and usability
Strong understanding of SEO, CRO, web analytics, and A/B testing
Experience with enterprise CMS platforms (Cascade CMS strongly preferred)
Ability to translate complex digital concepts into actionable guidance for non-technical stakeholders
Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills
Preferred
Experience in higher education digital strategy or large-scale institutional web environments
Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG), user-centered design frameworks, and brand governance
Familiarity with analytics platforms, heat-mapping tools, and UX research methodologies
Experience managing large-scale redesigns and content consolidation projects
Strong portfolio of UX, content strategy, IA, or digital leadership work
