Supervising Attorney (Hybrid)
Community Legal Aid SoCal is a non-profit organization focused on meeting the legal needs of low-income residents and seniors in Orange and Los Angeles Counties. They are seeking an experienced Supervising Attorney to lead the Eviction Diversion Pilot Program, overseeing legal and operational aspects to prevent homelessness through mediation and rental assistance coordination.

Responsibilities
Oversee implementation of the court-based eviction diversion mediation pilot in collaboration with DCBA, Los Angeles Superior Court, and program partners
Develop and maintain protocols for case screening, eligibility, mediation procedures, and quality assurance
Ensure compliance with County contract requirements, including confidentiality, reporting, and performance standards
Recruit, train, supervise, and mentor attorneys, paralegals, and support staff, including oversight of ethical standards and timekeeping
Conduct case reviews, performance evaluations, and provide ongoing support to mediators handling complex landlord-tenant disputes
Maintain a limited caseload of complex eviction matters, including nonpayment of rent and rental assistance coordination
Collaborate in outreach efforts and development of accessible, multilingual informational materials for landlords and tenants
Serve as primary liaison with DCBA, court personnel, and community partners; participate in regular stakeholder meetings
Ensure accurate case documentation and prepare monthly data reports on program outcomes and metrics (e.g., number of cases mediated, resolutions achieved, and rental assistance disbursed)
Conduct regular case reviews and audits to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with organizational policies and legal standards
Prepare reports on performance, trends, and service gaps for leadership review
Track productivity and outcomes to ensure performance aligns with program goals and service delivery expectations
Other duties may be required in the development of a new project
Qualification
Required
Juris Doctor and active membership in good-standing with the State Bar of California Bar or member of another state bar and ability to register as a legal services provider
Minimum of 5 years of experience in housing law, landlord-tenant disputes, or related areas
Valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, active insurance policy or other ability to travel frequently in and around the service area for representation and to engage with clients and community partners - Required
Demonstrated experience in supervision, program management, and staff mentoring
Knowledge of mediation practices and court procedures
Strong leadership, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills
Ability to collaborate effectively with government agencies, courts, and community organizations
Proactive, solution-oriented problem solver able to anticipate issues and think on their feet
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal case management or court form preparation software (e.g., Clio)
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, results-driven environment while providing trauma-responsive/informed services
