Associate Director of Development

UNC University Libraries is a global higher education leader in innovative teaching, research, and public service. The Associate Director of Development will be responsible for the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of prospects for the School of Social Work, focusing on major gifts and donor engagement strategies.

Responsibilities

The Associate Director of Development will be responsible for the identification, cultivation and solicitation of School of Social Work prospects at the level of $10,000 or greater from individual alumni and friends of the School of Social Work
The Associate Director will also solicit and close major gifts of $100,000 or greater as feasible and will have other related responsibilities
This position will work collaboratively with the other members of the advancement and communications teams to craft donor engagement and solicitation strategy, draft proposals and create stewardship plans
Up to 50% travel is required
While most of the travel will be in-state, out of state travel will also be occasionally required
In collaboration with the Dean and Associate Dean, the Associate Director will build relationships with the school’s leadership, faculty, and key donors and prospects and will have significant interaction with alumni volunteers
The Associate Director will plan an integrated program of activities that will maximize initiatives tailored to develop each prospect’s awareness, understanding, involvement and commitment to the School of Social Work’s priorities
This includes celebratory events, high touch contact with prospects, reporting to volunteers, and stewardship
The Associate Director will also assist with management of the School of Social Work’s Board of Advisors

Required

Minimum of a bachelor's degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with related experience
A minimum of 1 year of professional-level, direct solicitation/fundraising experience is required
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and presentation skills and superior written and verbal communication skills required
Working knowledge of database management required
Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Preferred

Sound knowledge and understanding of fund raising principles and concepts
The ability to handle highly confidential or sensitive information and to work effectively in a team environment
The ability to interact effectively in a comprehensive university setting
The ability to work effectively with volunteers
A high energy level and a strong desire to be successful
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Proficiency with a comprehensive donor database is desirable
