Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and maintain HIPAA Privacy, Security, and Breach Notification policies, procedures, and documentation
Conduct risk assessments and coordinate remediation efforts to address compliance gaps
Lead HIPAA training and awareness programs for employees and contractors
Establish and manage Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) with vendors and partners
Monitor ongoing compliance activities, audits, and internal controls
Support incident response activities, including investigation, documentation, and breach notification processes
Partner with engineering and product teams to embed privacy-by-design principles into software and workflows
Stay current on HIPAA regulations and advise leadership on compliance strategy and risk mitigation
Support broader compliance initiatives, including SOC 2 and state privacy regulations, as the company scales
Qualification
Required
3+ years of experience in HIPAA compliance, healthcare privacy, or a related regulatory role
Strong working knowledge of the HIPAA Privacy Rule, Security Rule, and Breach Notification Rule
Experience building or significantly expanding a compliance program (not solely maintaining existing programs)
Familiarity with cloud-based environments (GCP, AWS, or Azure) and SaaS security considerations
Ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical, actionable guidance
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred
Experience with SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar compliance frameworks
Understanding of state privacy laws and data protection requirements
Background working with veterans, VA systems, or government healthcare programs
Experience collaborating with technical teams in agile or product-driven environments
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently
