Database Administrator (DBA) - Contract
Sound Physicians is seeking a Database Administrator (DBA) to oversee management of cloud services and on-premises database environments. The DBA will be responsible for ensuring high performance and security of database systems, and will support strategic initiatives in data analytics.

Responsibilities
Design, implement, and maintain database systems to ensure high performance, security, and availability
Monitor database performance, implement changes, and apply new patches and versions when required
Perform regular database backups and recovery procedures
Optimize and tune database queries for efficiency after being released to production
Collaborate with developers to design and optimize database schemas
Ensure data integrity and security by implementing appropriate measures
Create and maintain documentation related to database configurations, procedures, and policies
Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues and provide support to end-users
Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with data protection regulations, such as GDPR, HIPAA
Proficiency in database management systems including related tools (e.g., SQL Server ,data lakes, document stores, event hubs)
Strong knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance tuning
Familiarity with database design, documentation, and coding
Application ecosystem troubleshooting
Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server instances and related software
Monitor and optimize database performance, including indexing and query tuning
Implement and manage database security measures, including user roles and permissions
Perform regular backups and ensure reliable recovery processes
Apply patches and updates to SQL Server to maintain security and performance
Troubleshoot and resolve database issues, ensuring minimal downtime
Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with organizational policies and regulations
Develop and maintain documentation for database configurations, procedures, and policies
Provision and configure Azure SQL databases to meet application requirements
Monitor and optimize database performance, including indexing and query tuning
Implement security measures, including firewall rules, encryption, and access controls
Manage automated backups and configure point-in-time restore options
Scale databases up or down based on performance and storage needs
Ensure high availability and disaster recovery using geo-replication and failover groups
Optimize cost by managing resource utilization and selecting appropriate pricing tiers
Integrate with other Azure services for enhanced functionality and analytics
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree
Minimum 7 years - combination of system administration and data architecture experience
Proficiency in database management systems including related tools (e.g., SQL Server, data lakes, document stores, event hubs)
Strong knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance tuning
Familiarity with database design, documentation, and coding
Application ecosystem troubleshooting

Must have peripheral and adjacent knowledge of: Power BI, Data lakes, ADF, Databricks, Snowflake, Event processing technologies, Azure Dev Ops, Github, Agile/Scrum methodologies
Azure including Azure SQL Platform as a Service, Azure Virtual Networking, Identity and Access Management, API, containerization and web application services
Functional knowledge of DNS and Networking
Functional knowledge of on-premises hosting of three tier architecture and virtualization
Experience supporting a 1000+ user environment across multiple locations
Must maintain positive attitude when working with IT team, other colleagues, and customers
Interpret and/or discuss information with others, which involves terminology or concepts not familiar to many people; regularly provide advice and recommend actions involving rather complex issues
