ABE/ASE Instructor and Program Coordinator

Garden City Community College is seeking an ABE/ASE Instructor and Program Coordinator to provide instruction in basic reading, language arts, math, and English Language Acquisition skills to adult and adolescent students. This role also involves coordinating the Adult Basic Education and High School Equivalency programs, planning curricula, and evaluating educational outcomes to enhance literacy and prepare students for employment and further education.

Responsibilities

Adult Basic/Secondary Education Instructor (ABE)(ASE)
Administer Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) and other required assessments
Assess students to determine instructional level and readiness for advancement
Use GCCCA course outlines and instructional plans to prepare and deliver instruction
Design standards-based instructional units and lesson plans using the College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS)
Manage and direct effective classroom instruction and adapt to various learning styles and abilities
Monitor student progress and outcomes
Collect, record, and report all necessary information related to students in a timely manner
Work with part-time instructors as needed, to help ensure student success within the individual classes
Monitor students throughout the school day
Monitor and counsel attendance of students in an effort to improve attendance rates
Counsel ABE students as required
Assist with safety of the overall school campus
Assist in the establishment of goals and objectives for the program
Oversee implementation of policies and procedures
Conduct classroom observations
Coordinate the collection, analysis, and/or reporting of information regarding the performance of instructors and students
Demonstrate that implementation and changes are successful and beneficial for the staff, students and the program
Demonstrate that students are transferring to post-secondary education or employment
Maintain or exceed state target goals
Assist in increasing the number of enrollees and graduates
Work to increase and demonstrate educational gain
Assist in overseeing programs offered by GCCCA
Assist the ABE Program Director in the daily operation of the ABE program
Assist with managing the discipline of students
Assist with recruitment, applications, orientation, and enrollment for the different programs
Assist Program Director with informational meetings, advisory meetings, and community Information concerning the ABE program
Determine eligibility and recruit prospective students from the adult education program for transition into AO-K approved pathways
Collaborate with Technical Education Division to implement AO-K programming
Deliver Integrated Education Training (IET) instruction
Coordinate instructional activities with AO-K instructors
Establish a working relationship with all college departments to assist prospective AO-K students
Conduct orientations for each new cohort of AO-K students
Perform intensive advising of all AO-K students
Attend off-campus student recruiting events, as needed
Participate in professional growth activities such as GCCCA-sponsored conferences and workshops, including all GCCCA staff meetings (some travel required)
Perform other duties as deemed necessary in attaining established program goals
Other duties as assigned by Director of GCCCA

Required

A Bachelor's degree in education or related field of study required
Two years to five years of similar or related experience
Excellent written and verbal interpersonal communication skills are required
An understanding and appreciation of diversity
A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required
Strong organizational skills
The ability to maintain confidential information is necessary

Preferred

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite preferred
