Responsibilities
Work with design, manufacturing and process engineers to design for thermal processing including heat treatment, brazing, and surface/coating processing
Work with cross-functional teams that are responsible for selecting materials, manufacturing processes, and suppliers to produce world class aerospace hardware
Identify and apply mature state-of-the-art processes to manufacturing, and develop process control documentation and quality assurance measures
Develop new processes to solve challenging problems, including joining, coatings and heat treatment
Own process and repair qualification across the development and production lifecycle
Train operators in all aspects of thermal processing and equipment usage and maintenance
Qualification
Required
B.S. degree or higher in Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
5+ years' experience of special process support for aerospace hardware with an emphasis on thermal processing, brazing, and/or diffusion coatings
Experience processing aerospace materials including stainless steel, copper, nickel and cobalt alloys, or titanium alloys
Experience with post process testing such as hardness, alpha case, metallography and mechanical testing
Experience implementing and qualifying production special processes
Ability to collect and analyze data and present results in a meaningful format
Preferred
Experience with HIP (hot-isostatic pressing), HPHT (high pressure heat treat) and/or vacuum compression brazing
Experience working with diffusion-based coatings
In-depth understanding of materials/ process relationships for the design of custom thermal treatments
Knowledge of fixturing strategies to reduce dimensional distortion
Experience with auditing special processes and expertise in driving corrective actions
Experience with failure and forensic analysis of aerospace or other complex hardware
Understanding of quality standards and industrial codes
