Sr Budget Analyst

The City of Fort Worth is one of the fastest growing large cities in the U.S. and is seeking a Sr. Budget Analyst to join their FWLab, Budget Division. The role involves managing financial aspects of capital infrastructure projects and ensuring alignment with city goals and sustainability objectives.

Responsibilities

Assists departments and senior management staff in ensuring compliance with annual operating, capital outlay, and capital improvement plans or adopted operating budgets; monitors annual bond sales, reviews project management reports, approves requests for appropriations and tracks expenditures and surplus funding sources to provide decision making tools; and analyzes and sets criteria for closing capital projects
Participates in assigned analytical support functions that have Citywide impact; participates in the creation of new budget processes, such as fund review process or new process for vehicle and equipment purchases; and generates capital project expenditure update reports
Coordinates with various departments to research unusual and unnatural balances in departments’ funds; analyzes the resolution for unusual balances; defines any remaining fund balances; and makes recommendations regarding use of balances
Prepares financial forecasts; identifies possible budget overruns; coordinates appropriate solution with departments, CFO and City Manager’s Office

Required

Master's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Public Administration, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
Four (4) years of experience in budget management, finance, research analysis or related field

Preferred

Knowledge of capital infrastructure project budget control and life-cycle cost analysis
Knowledge of five-year capital improvement plan development and projection of multi-year project expenditures
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and strong reporting skills, both written and verbal
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
