Benefits Specialist

Tampa Maid Foods is seeking a knowledgeable and service-oriented Benefits Specialist to support the administration, improvement, and compliance of our employee benefit programs and leave management processes. This role is key in ensuring employees understand and maximize the benefits available to them while maintaining strong relationships with brokers, vendors, and internal partners.

Responsibilities

Administer employee benefit programs including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k), and voluntary benefits
Process monthly benefit invoices, reconcile billing, and prepare payments for all group plans
Partner with brokers to evaluate, select, and renew benefit offerings that balance cost-effectiveness and employee value
Ensure compliance with ACA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, and applicable state regulations
Lead annual open enrollment, including materials preparation, employee presentations, and HRIS updates
Manage and process FMLA requests and in-house leave programs, ensuring timely communication and compliance with legal requirements
Maintain accurate records of all leave activity and provide periodic reporting to HR leadership
Serve as a knowledgeable resource to employees regarding leave eligibility, processes, and required documentation
Serve as the primary contact for employee benefit inquiries, resolving issues promptly and accurately
Educate employees on available benefits and leave options to ensure understanding and proper utilization
Maintain relationships with benefit brokers, insurance carriers, and third-party vendors
Support vendor negotiations and monitor service performance to ensure quality and cost efficiency
Maintain accurate benefit and leave data within HRIS systems
Generate reports on benefit utilization, costs, and trends to support decision-making
Assist in developing and updating benefits and leave policies
Monitor legislative changes and industry trends, advising HR leadership on program adjustments
Administer benefit programs accurately and in full compliance with regulations
Provide timely, clear, and supportive employee communication
Maintain strong vendor relationships and support cost-efficient plan management
Administer all leave programs in accordance with policy and federal/state requirements
Ensure accuracy of records and provide actionable reporting insights

Required

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required
3–5 years of experience in benefit administration, including FMLA and leave management
Experience working with brokers, vendors, and negotiating benefit packages
Strong HRIS experience and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel

Preferred

HR or benefits certifications (e.g., SHRM-CP, CEBS) preferred
Manufacturing or food industry experience preferred, but not required
