FISHERIES & WILDLIFE BIO SCIENTIST IV - 77001068
The State of Florida's Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is dedicated to managing fish and wildlife resources for their long-term well-being. They are seeking a Fisheries & Wildlife Biological Scientist IV to manage activities associated with an interpretive program for the state's Wildlife Management Area system, requiring expertise in nature interpretation and knowledge of Florida’s wildlife and habitats.

Responsibilities
Interpretive Planning: Conducts interpretive evaluations, planning, and periodic assessments for lead Wildlife Management Areas. Produces management plan objectives, budgets, and strategies. Develops interpretive themes for Public Access Assessments. Attends Management Advisory Group meetings and reviews management prospectus and draft plans. Builds and maintains collaborative partnerships with local, state, and national recreation organizations to enhance interpretive planning. Provides technical assistance regarding design and placement of interpretive and recreation infrastructure. Collaborates with other sections and Divisions as needed to ensure interpretive plans and products are coordinated across the agency
Strategic Communications: Manages Wildlife Management Area awareness strategies and content development. Administers program websites, WMA Recreation Finder application, hunt calendars, WMA social media posts, newsletters, articles and other vehicles to increase awareness of recreational opportunities on wildlife management areas. Represents FWC and the WMA system at events, festivals, and meetings
Publications Management: Plans, reviews, edits, and manages all aspects of production workflow for recreational publications, kiosk panels, signage and maps on Florida’s wildlife management area system. Works with area biologists, recreation planners, cartographers, graphic designers, web designers and printers to ensure high quality products that are scientifically accurate, engaging and effective, and widely distributed
Interpretive Programming: Leads interpretive programming for statewide events such as Florida WildQuest, community events, and other conservation stewardship related programming. Applies knowledge of Florida’s wildlife and habitats to inform interpretive messaging and public access
Supervision: Supervises interpretive staff, contractors, consultants, interns and volunteers including interpretive writers, graphic designers, and outreach staff, partnering with Division communications personnel
Special Projects: Develops content, plans, and designs for special projects and events related to conservation stewardship, participatory science, and other office functions
Administrative Duties: Attends staff meetings, conducts compliance reviews, prepares required forms, responds to telephone and mail inquiries. Other administrative duties as required
Qualification
Required
A high school diploma and 6 years of professional experience in nature interpretation, ecology, environmental communications, or a similar field
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, environmental science, communications/outreach, marketing or similar, can substitute for four of the six years' of required experience
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License and have the ability to travel up to 25% on average annually
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check

Knowledge of Florida's natural communities and associated wildlife
Excellent interpretive writing ability
Ability to translate scientific information into popular language
Excellent research skills
Effective public speaking skills and ability to produce multi-media presentations using PowerPoint, laptop computer and projector
Experience working with web designers and producing content
Experience in publication production
Highly organized, able to manage multiple projects, has strong attention to detail
Excellent editorial skills
Self-directed and able to work as an effective team member
Can evaluate high quality photography for use on web, print and sign products
Ability to interpret maps and work with cartographer
Proficient in use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe Pro, and Lightroom
Ability to work independently and prioritize work
Ability to collaborate with others
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
Ability to utilize problem solving techniques and apply critical thinking skills
Ability to collect, organize, evaluate and analyze data
