Responsibilities
Developing, reviewing, updating, modifying, and approving electrical design drawings and BOM to meet regulatory and safety guidelines
Liaising with clients and other engineers to ensure projects are completed to specifications and on time
Establishing relationships with clients, vendors, suppliers, and other professionals
Maintaining and improving existing engineering processes and workflows
Participating in conferences, events, networking, and learning opportunities
Creating cost estimates, schedules, and various other documents
Analyzing existing processes and scheduling meetings to discuss improvement initiatives
Conducting research, performing diagnostics, and troubleshooting equipment and systems
Designing and building prototypes as part of the development process as required
Work in a cross functional project team environment as well as individually on assignments
Provide engineering support for manufacturing and service teams
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
5+ years of Power Generation and Distribution equipment, electrical component and controls design, and troubleshooting. Medium and low voltage applications
PLC based controls design and SCADA programming experience
DC Power system design (PV and/or battery storage), troubleshooting, and testing
4-20ma current loop component and control system design and troubleshooting experience
Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus RTU, CAN bus, RS485 communications protocol design and troubleshooting
One-line and three-line schematic design documentation
Panel load calculations and schedule development
Experience as subject matter expert (SME) internally and with suppliers and customers
Experience defining electrical/controls requirements as part of system specifications
Experience supporting field and customers to troubleshoot technical issues using a sound root cause analysis and problem-solving approach
Experience supporting Manufacturing to resolve issues and work with Electrical Associates to develop standard assembly methods and evolve troubleshooting skills
Experience designing electrical systems with UL approved components and overseeing UL system approval. (CSA experience is acceptable)
Experience in Hazardous Location Electrical System and Component design (Class/Div./Zone)
Experience in control enclosure selection, design/layout per applicable standard(s), and/or customer requirements
Experience in cable design for application, including conductor sizing and type, connector selection, and equipment routing
Must have working knowledge of NEC and IEC and be familiar with applicable IEEE and other industry standards
Experience with IOT, Networking, and Cloud Based solutions
Proficiency in the principles of Electricity and Power Systems
Knowledge of industry standards and electrical codes relevant to power generation and distribution
Problem-solving skills and ability to innovate in energy efficiency and system optimization
Experience with AutoCAD software to create electrical schematics detailing design specifications and requirements
Experience as design checker/approver for electrical engineering designs and documentation
Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills
Preferred
Master's degree preferable
Previous experience in the energy, power generation, or oil & gas sectors is an asset
