Motorsports Senior Race Engine Calibration, Development & Track Support Engineer

Responsibilities

Assist with engine and driveline inspection, installation, and operation during dyno development and validation testing
Lead or support issue resolution, data analysis, and results reporting for dyno development tests to optimize power / torque, efficiency, drivability, durability, shift performance, and related control strategies
Lead or support the creation of new or revised calibration procedures, best practices, and data analysis tools to enhance accuracy and resource efficiency
Collaborate with key partners to extract and correlate dyno, track, and simulation-derived data to advance analytical model fidelity
Support other design, build, and test activities as needed
Transfer knowledge across multiple disciplines and race programs as appropriate
Actively participate in program meetings with key internal and external partners
Occasional weekday or weekend off-shift support should be expected in order to meet the needs of the program and to work around the schedule of high-demand test facilities
Perform pre-race system checks and root-cause communications or other issues to establish race event readiness
Review real-time and logged vehicle data to monitor and communicate issues and potential performance enhancements to appropriate race team members, including power and fuel usage strategies
Collaborate with vehicle engineers providing calibration of control systems such as pit-speed limiters, traction control, and shifting upgrades
Participate in debriefing sessions with other propulsion and race team members to propose advancements, document issues, and prioritize follow-up activities
Compile and present propulsion data to team managers for presentation to sanctioning bodies when requested
Create daily and post-event reports summarizing propulsion-related data, results, issues, and concerns for each race car

Required

Bachelor of Engineering degree
5+ years working cohesively with engineers, designers, technicians, or other partners in a high performing team environment
Propulsion system knowledge aligned with optimizing efficiency, performance, reliability, and durability
OEM or motorsports EMS (Engine Management System) calibration and controls experience
Familiarity with common OEM or motorsports propulsion development tools such as: Bosch WinDarab, ETAS/INCA, AVL PUMA, IndiCom, Concerto, Motec, Mega Line
Demonstrated ability to balance and prioritize multiple tasks efficiently while working under pressure to meet tight deadlines
Demonstrated ability to clearly and concisely communicate technical and non-technical information verbally and in writing
High proficiency in root-cause analysis and resolution techniques
Ability and eagerness to master new skills quickly - learning independently and from others as appropriate
Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills to effectively collaborate with varying levels of key internal and external partners
Exceptional work ethic and integrity

Preferred

Prior Motorsports experience. Collegiate programs such as Formula SAE, Baja, or personal hobby engagement are acceptable
Prior race engine hardware and controls experience (examples: PID tuning; torque-based control strategy; fuel and spark; traction control; gearbox shifting calibration)
Engine combustion analysis experience using in-cylinder pressure measurement systems
Familiarity with race vehicle telemetry, CAN communications protocols, and troubleshooting
Experience with design and analysis tools (e.g. Team Center, CAD, FEA, CFD. GT Power)
Experience with software and tool development applications (e.g. MATLAB, Simulink, Python, C++)
Simulation experience (e.g. HIL, SIL, and DIL systems)
High energy personality with an internal drive to move projects forward in a fast-paced work environment
