Benefits Analyst II (FMLA)

The University of Houston is seeking a Benefits Analyst II to ensure compliance with regulatory standards for their benefits programs. The role involves analyzing benefits data, conducting compliance reviews, and providing accurate financial reporting related to benefits and retirement programs.

Responsibilities

Analyzes hire, termination and benefits data in the UH and ERS PeopleSoft systems for benefits purposes
Conducts compliance reviews of FMLA cases, in accordance with applicable state and federal law; conducts annual FMLA case audits
Enters and reviews leave of absence (LOA) data in the University's HRIS system
Process contributions and withdrawals and approves applications within the University's sick leave benefit plans based on eligibility
Calculates, reviews and provides reports of leave dates, eligible prior state service, transferable sick and vacation hours and longevity pay. Communicates leave and prior state service information to Payroll and other departments as needed
Develops and executes timely communications (e.g. website information updates, training materials, and informational fliers), related to benefits and leave administration, for the human resources department and employees
Responsible for the development and maintenance of monthly and annual benefit and leave administration reports
Provides accurate financial reporting and billing reconciliation for benefit and retirement programs
Ensures administration and compliance of Affordable Care Act rules and regulations
Provides benefit-related information for new employee orientation and other benefit-related training offered to University employees
Assists with strategic planning of the LOA program and other benefit projects
May lead complex benefit and leave administration related projects
Ensures compliance with all HR policies and procedures
Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Additional duties may include collaborating with internal stakeholders and external agencies to resolve complex benefits and leave issues, support audits, and respond to regulatory inquiries
The position may also assist with testing system updates or process improvements related to benefits and leave administration, while ensuring data accuracy, confidentiality, and adherence to University policies and applicable laws

Required

Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline
Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed
Requires a minimum of three (3) year of directly job-related experience
