Plant Health Care Intern
ArborActive is a Connecticut-based, science-driven plant health care and tree-care company focused on sustainable practices. They are seeking motivated PHC & Arboriculture Interns for hands-on educational opportunities in field diagnostics, PHC treatments, and arboricultural operations.

Responsibilities
Assist with PHC treatments including soil drenches, injections, fertilization, and biological controls
Support scouting and monitoring for pests, diseases, stress symptoms, and abiotic disorders
Collect plant samples and help document findings for diagnostic evaluation
Participate in root collar examinations, mulching best practices, and soil remediation work
Assist with ornamental and structural pruning of young or small trees
Support the crew with planting projects, watering, and establishment care
Participate in basic rigging, ground support, and safe tool handling
Learn proper PPE use, chainsaw safety orientation (ground level), and climbing system basics (optional)
Record PHC treatment data, observations, and site-specific information
Use mobile apps to track field work
Help maintain equipment logs, chemical tracking sheets, and jobsite notes
Follow all ArborActive safety protocols and PPE requirements
Participate in training sessions on PHC, arboriculture, invasive species, and equipment use
Learn directly from ISA Certified Arborists, plant health care specialists, and arborist crew leads
Qualification
Required
Enrollment in (or recent completion of) a degree program in: forestry, arboriculture, horticulture, environmental science, biology, natural resources, or a related field
Strong interest in plant health care, tree care, or horticulture
Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions for extended periods
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Ability to lift 30–50 lbs and perform physical field tasks
Curiosity, positive attitude, and willingness to learn technical field skills
Preferred
Coursework in tree biology, soils, plant pathology, entomology, or ecology
Experience with plant or tree identification in the Northeast
Familiarity with PHC tools or equipment (fertilizers, soil probes, injectors)
Familiarity with GIS or mobile data apps
Experience working outdoors in landscaping, conservation, or farm settings
