District Attorney Investigator

The N.C. Department of Information Technology is seeking a District Attorney Investigator to support the District Attorney in developing and preparing cases for trial. The role involves conducting professional investigative work, identifying problems, acquiring facts, and serving as a liaison with law enforcement agencies.

Responsibilities

Front office work such as answering phones; assisting the public as needed
Review case files to ensure proper documentation, evaluate sufficiency of evidence, identify gaps, and advise appropriate personnel of deficiencies
Locate witnesses/victims as needed
Assist with subpoenas and ensure compliance
Prepare diagrams, photographs, and other exhibits required for prosecution
Conduct background investigations on witnesses, defendants, and potential jurors as directed
Participate in case evaluations
Assist with grand jury preparation
Assist with extraditions, including coordinating with other states and processing required documentation
Assist with the oversight of DCI, CJIS and other criminal investigative programs utilized within the District Attorney’s Office

Required

Graduation from a four-year college or university, preferably in the field of law, criminal justice, and psychology or sociology, with one (1) year of experience in legal, judicial, law enforcement, or investigative work
An associate degree with three (3) years of experience in the above-mentioned fields may substitute for the four year degree requirement
Must possess a valid NC driver's license and reliable transportation
Significant experience and skill in investigating criminal cases

Preferred

Law enforcement certification is not required, but it is strongly preferred and pay may be higher for candidates who hold certification
