HAZARDOUS MATERIALS TECHNICIAN
The United States Capitol Police (USCP) safeguards the Congress and its surroundings from crime and terrorism. They are seeking a Hazardous Materials Technician to respond to hazardous material incidents and ensure the safety and welfare of individuals in and around the US Capitol Complex.

Responsibilities
Technicians will respond to the presence or potential release of chemical and biological hazardous materials to control the release
Technicians will be trained and equipped to assist with the identification of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear materials
Technicians will perform hazard and risk assessments and conduct a complete incident analysis to identify materials involved
Technicians are prepared to conduct offensive-control actions to include hot-zone entry for reconnaissance, stabilization, and product confinement
Technicians will establish on-scene control procedures and employ hazardous materials response procedures and equipment
They will implement and apply methods, techniques and abatement to control or eliminate unsafe acts or conditions resulting from chemical, biological, radiological or weapons of mass destruction incidents
They will take action necessary to control the risk and secure the scene appropriately
Technicians will utilize surveillance and monitoring techniques related to hazardous control and loss minimization including isolation, guarding, decontamination and use of personal protective equipment
They will collect samples and evidence of contaminated substances for further analysis and investigation
Technicians will participate in rescue operations and provide emergency medical treatment to individuals exposed to hazardous substance releases within the scope of certification and training
They will work and function within an assigned role in the Incident Command System to assess risk and to develop an incident action plan
Technicians will participate in providing training, and in developing, implementing and planning logistical functions of the Response Team
They will work within the Congressional Complex and conduct full-scale customized response exercises
Qualification
Required
Must be a U.S. citizen
Must meet the minimum entry age of 21 years old
Must not have reached age 37 at the time of appointment
Must possess and maintain a valid REAL ID U.S. Driver's license
Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance
Must successfully pass a medical evaluation
Must be able to obtain and maintain an Emergency Medical Technician Certification (EMT) with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT)
Successful completion of a background investigation is required
Must complete a one-year probationary period
Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the CP-07 (GS-09) grade level that was in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled
Such specialized experience includes operating a fully comprehensive hazardous materials intervention, prevention and control program; carrying out extensive contingency plans for containment and evacuation; and/or conducting prevention training designed to eliminate unsafe acts or conditions resulting from CBRNE and WMD incidents
Applicants must also possess Hazardous Materials Technician certification accredited by either the National Board on Fire Service Professionals Qualifications (NBFSPQ) OR the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) AND be able to display and apply knowledge and training from the certification
