2026 City Service Worker, Parks & Grounds
City of Marietta is seeking a City Service Worker for their Parks and Grounds division. This role involves performing semi-skilled grounds and landscaping maintenance for city properties, ensuring cleanliness and upkeep of various parks and facilities.

Responsibilities
Maintains city/BLW grounds such as cutting grass, raking leaves, tree trimming and removal, weed eradication, trash and brush removal, sod, tree, and flower planting
Repairs graves sites, park benches, playground equipment, and related park facilities
Paints restrooms benches, and other park facilities as assigned
Applies fertilizers, pesticides and other chemicals to lawns and plants as assigned
Notifies Foreperson of maintenance needed for various assigned parks and grounds
Performs trash control at City Hall, Glover Park, Marietta Square, and other City/BLW property and facilities
Cleans and maintains tennis courts, athletic fields, walking trails, restrooms, parking lots, pavilion, and park areas
Drives a 3-ton dump truck to deliver and unload materials, tools and equipment to job site as assigned
Assists in securing materials on the job site against loss, damage or thief
Assists in set-up, take down and cleanup activities for special events as assigned
Assists in the cleanup of the maintenance shop
Keeps trucks, tractors and all tools used cleaned
Notifies Foreperson of equipment failures, part replacements or required maintenance
Responsible for keeping track of all equipment assigned on the job site
Reports any missing tools and equipment to the Foreperson
May be assigned job leadership and guidance to probationers with the Community Service Program as assigned
Must be able to work forty-hour work week, with normal workdays scheduled either Sunday through Thursday, or Tuesday through Saturday
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Must be able to work forty-hour work week, with normal workdays scheduled either Sunday through Thursday, or Tuesday through Saturday. Schedule to be assigned by Director
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English, add and subtract whole numbers, carry out instructions and in good physical condition
Ability to pass a physical examination at time of hire
Must be in good physical condition with the ability to lift, pull or push moderate to heavy objects and walk or stand for extended periods of time
Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions
Successful candidates are required to submit to drug screen & background inquiry
Preferred
Minimum of 2 years recent experience in outdoor property maintenance operating gas-powered machines such as, lawn mowers, chain saws, blowers, trimmers, and other small engine landscaping equipment
Skill operating a bobcat loader and attachments; front-end loader with backhoe; 3-ton dump truck and large commercial lawn maintenance equipment
Valid Georgia driver's license at time of hire including a satisfactory seven-year driver's license to include no DUI's in the last 5 years
Knowledge of current landscaping methods, carpentry, painting, and other related maintenance methods
Knowledge and skill with basic hand tools and equipment
Knowledge of lawn and plant chemicals, fertilizers, and applications
