Construction Engineer

Responsibilities
Plan and develop small to medium construction projects from concept through execution, leveraging prior construction experience to define scope, sequencing, schedules, and budgets
Support conceptual planning and assist in presenting project approaches, logistics plans, and execution strategies to clients and internal stakeholders
Review contract documents, drawings, and specifications to identify constructability issues, risks, and field constraints early in the project lifecycle
Coordinate with engineering, operations, and procurement teams to align project plans with operational requirements and client expectations
Lead on-site construction activities from mobilization through closeout or hand-off to operations, serving as the primary field representative for the company
Maintain a regular and active presence in the field to monitor work progress, safety compliance, and quality standards
Coordinate daily activities of subcontractors, suppliers, and field crews to ensure proper sequencing and efficient execution of work
Identify and resolve construction challenges in real time, applying practical field experience to minimize schedule and cost impacts
Enforce safety policies, quality control standards, and compliance with contract documents, drawings, and applicable codes
Manage submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and field documentation; maintain accurate logs and ensure timely resolution
Support cost and schedule control by tracking field progress, change conditions, and impacts to project execution
Prepare and process subcontract agreements, purchase orders, and change orders in coordination with project leadership
Provide accurate field input for progress tracking, forecasting, and project reporting
Serve as a key point of contact for on-site communication with clients, inspectors, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams
Lead and participate in daily huddles, coordination meetings, and progress meetings to maintain alignment on project goals
Communicate schedule risks, safety concerns, quality issues, and execution challenges promptly to project leadership and clients
Support project closeout activities, including punch lists, turnover documentation, and transition to operations
Assist in identifying, evaluating, and coordinating subcontractors and suppliers to meet project-specific construction requirements
Build and maintain effective working relationships with trade partners to ensure timely delivery, quality workmanship, and responsiveness
Provide field-driven feedback on subcontractor performance, constructability, and lessons learned to improve future project execution
Qualification
Required
Education: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent field experience accepted
Experience: Commercial construction or rapid-response deployment experience preferred, with demonstrated success planning and executing small to medium construction projects and significant time spent in the field
Certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP) and OSHA 30 certifications are a plus
Soft Skills: Strong communication, team building, problem-solving, adaptability, and time management skills
Technical Skills: Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., Smartsheet) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Construction Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and field coordination, including management of subcontractors, suppliers, RFIs, submittals, and change conditions
Professional Requirements: Ability to maintain confidentiality and work primarily in active construction environments, with travel as required
