Senior Accountant/ Accountant Trainee 1/2 (NY HELPS), WCB Item #2528
The New York State Workers' Compensation Board is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their Office of Financial Services/Bureau of Accounting. The role involves providing critical financial analysis, preparing financial statements, and ensuring accurate account reconciliations.

Responsibilities
Provide critical analysis of Special Fund revenues, expenditures and budgetary needs
Retrieve and analyze data from Statewide Financial System (SFS) and other systems
Complete WCB Special Revenue account reconciliations and Third Party Administrator (TPA) account reconciliations
Prepare Financial Statements and supporting schedules for WCB Special Revenue Funds
Present completed Financial Statements and supporting schedules for assigned WCB Special Revenue Funds to Associate Accountant and Accounts Team
Perform general ledger journal entries, review general ledger transactions for accuracy and appropriateness
Research and thoroughly document identified accounting issues, assist in making necessary corrections and ensure identified issues are appropriately resolved
Complete daily and monthly bank reconciliation
Complete daily and monthly investment reconciliation
Review, analyze and track spending for WCB’s Special Revenue Funds, including accounts managed by procured (TPA)
Ensure files submitted by TPA’s are timely, complete, and accurate. Work collaboratively with WCB program staff, finance staff and TPAs to resolve discrepancies
Review daily, monthly, annual and/or periodic reports for accuracy and completion. Prepare Ad Hoc reports as requested
Manage shared email box, ensure all inquiries are answered timely and accurately
Participate in a group setting, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Assist in special projects as requested by supervisor/management
Ability to manage multiple tasks
Correspond in a professional manner with co-workers, management, and external customers
Strong analytical, written, and oral communication skills
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, and Word)
Working knowledge of Statewide Financial System (SFS) or the equivalent Oracle PeopleSoft applications
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation or a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses
For Accountant Trainee 2: One year of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles
For Senior Accountant: Two years of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles
Strong analytical, written, and oral communication skills
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, and Word)
Working knowledge of Statewide Financial System (SFS) or the equivalent Oracle PeopleSoft applications
Preferred
A master's or higher degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation may substitute for one year of experience
A master's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation and one year of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles
Currently valid Certified Public Accountant license and registration issued by New York State
