Responsibilities

Oversee a segment of the Communications team with a focus on internal services. Direct reports include one webmaster, two graphic designers and one internal communications specialist
Foster a collaborative team environment with your direct reports and all District staff
Oversee the functions of the Internal Communications program including proofreading communications while checking for District and AP Style, providing backup support for emails and emergency notifications to staff, providing strategic input on internal communications plans, surveys and projects, assisting with the Employee Meetings, etc
Monitor the work request system, understand the requests and then assign and prioritize work for yourself and your team to meet customer deadlines
Manage the District’s online ordering system for publications and materials
Oversee the design of digital and print visual materials, reviewing each product to ensure it meets the District’s design and style standards and the customer’s needs
Take initiative to follow project progress, news releases, District initiatives, section content meetings, etc. to proactively develop new content for the website, intranet, email marketing, brochures, infographics, bios, etc
Manage a list of District brochures, updating text and design as needed and maintain the printed stock
Oversee the District’s email marketing platform and proactively develop content for several newsletters
Maintain the District’s web content, which includes keeping content current and generating new content that is useful and interesting
Be knowledgeable on digital accessibility efforts to help improve and maintain a high level of accessibility on the District’s external website and through digital materials designed by your staff (currently working toward WCAG 2.2 AA standards); Work with your staff to continue developing accessibility workflows and documentation
Monitor analytics for external and internal websites and use it to guide improvements
Help the webmaster enhance the user experience by creating user-friendly and visually appealing external and internal websites
Oversee the District’s external and internal websites including the design, maintenance, enhancements, security and processes conducted by the webmaster
Coordinate with internal customers and your team to ensure needs are understood and met
Research and keep abreast of the latest relevant trends and technologies to help your team
Develop and implement design guidelines, standards and processes to maintain consistency across all visual materials
Provide valuable guidance and feedback to your team
Conduct regular check ins and annual performance reviews with your team
Work with your team to develop annual goals that align with the goals of the Communications and Board Services Bureau and the executive director
Recruit, interview and onboard new team members as needed
Conduct administrative tasks such as approving leave requests and timecards and updating reports
Assist with budgeting for equipment and professional development your team needs
Participate in emergency management activities as needed
Assist the Communications Section with special projects or additional duties as assigned

Required

Associates degree (or higher)
Four (4) years related work experience (equivalent combination of education and experience is accepted)
One (1) year of supervisory experience preferred and/or Five (5) years in the specific job profile
Valid driver's license
Bachelors degree (or higher) in communications, public relations, English, journalism, literature, marketing or other related fields preferred OR a Bachelors degree in graphic design, visual communications or related web-field will be considered if satisfactory examples of written work are provided
Six (6) years related work experience (equivalent combination of education and experience is accepted)
Two (2) years of supervisory experience
Valid driver's license
Masters degree (or higher) in communications, public relations, English, journalism, literature, marketing or other related fields preferred OR a Masters degree in graphic design, visual communications or related web-field will be considered if satisfactory examples of written work are provided
Eight (8) years related work experience (equivalent combination of education and experience is accepted)
Four (4) years of supervisory experience
Valid driver's license
