The Head of People will own the People & Talent function, serve as a strategic partner to leadership, and build a high-performing recruiting engine while ensuring HR compliance across multi-state operations.

Responsibilities

Own People & Talent end-to-end: recruiting, HR, performance management, culture, and org design
Serve as a strategic partner to founders, executives and hiring managers on hiring plans, org structure, and leadership development
Build and scale Ever’s recruiting engine across engineering, product, operations, sales, and corporate roles
Personally lead senior and critical hires while building a high-performing recruiting function
Design hiring processes, interview frameworks, and bar-raising practices
Own onboarding, performance reviews, leveling frameworks, and career progression
Build compensation bands, equity frameworks, and promotion processes
Create a high-performance culture grounded in accountability, ownership, and mission
Ensure HR compliance across multi-state operations (CA and beyond)
Act as steward of Ever’s values, culture, and employer brand
Build and manage external partners (PEOs, legal, payroll, benefits, recruiters)
Develop data-driven people metrics (retention, engagement, performance, hiring velocity)
Scale the People function as Ever grows nationally

Required

7–12+ years of experience across recruiting, HR, or People leadership
Proven track record of hiring exceptional talent across technical and operational roles
Strong business acumen — you understand how people strategy drives company outcomes
Trusted advisor to founders and executives
High ownership mindset with strong execution ability
Comfortable operating in ambiguity and building systems from zero
Exceptional communication, judgment, and emotional intelligence
Passion for building elite teams and strong cultures
Deep experience with ATS and HR systems (Greenhouse, Ashby, Rippling, Deel, etc.)
Strong data orientation — you use metrics to guide decisions
Familiarity with compensation benchmarking tools
Experience designing performance management systems
Comfortable with modern startup tools (Notion, Slack, Google Workspace)
Knowledge of CA labor law and multi-state compliance

Preferred

Experience building People functions at high-growth startups (Series A+ preferred)
